    About OCTA:


    The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is the county’s primary transportation agency. OCTA creates, funds, and delivers efficient transportation for Orange County.     Overview:

     

    Under supervision, performs repairs and maintenance on bus seating.


    The starting pay rate for this position is $22.52 per hour. Pay rate increases incrementally according to the union contract. Current top wage is $31.44 per hour after 36 months.

    The recruiting process will result in an eligibility list to fill future openings through January 30, 2019.

     

    Responsibilities

    This list is intended to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification and is not designed to be interpreted as an exhaustive listing of all tasks required of employees assigned to this job.

    • Removes and replaces seating. 
    • Fabricates new seat covers. 
    • Repairs damaged seat cushions. 
    • Cleans and paints seat covers. 
    • Inspects repairs and replaces seat belts. 
    • Operates hand tools related to repairs. 
    • Operates upholstery sewing machine. 
    • Maintains repair records. 
    • Drives buses as needed for repairs. 
    • Cleans tools and work area.

    Qualifications

    Any combination of education and experience in automotive upholstery which has led to the demonstrated ability to perform all aspects of upholstery repair work of advanced difficulty.  Completion of an upholstering course is desirable.

     

    Special Qualifications:

    • A valid Class B California Driver License with P endorsement. 
    • Good DMV record in accordance with agency standards. 
    • Possession of necessary tools to perform the above duties (excluding sewing machine)
    • Must be able to wear respiratory protection.

     

    Knowledge of:

    • Advanced methods and procedures of upholstery repair and fabrication including operation and maintenance of sewing machine.


    Ability to:

    • Operate required tools including sewing machine. 
    • Fabricate seat covers from uncut stock and repair damaged seats. 
    • Design and follow upholstery patterns. 
    • Produce quality upholstery repair within acceptable time standards
    • Maintain accurate records and make reports. 
    • Follow instructions. 
    • Work on any shift at any location. 
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others 
    • Utilize automated maintenance system.

     

    Safety Sensitive:

    Positions in this job classification are considered safety sensitive and are subject to drug and alcohol testing, including but not limited to pre-employment testing, post-accident testing and random testing, under Federal Transportation Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations, and U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, 49 CFR Part 40 and Part 655.  Please refer to the OCTA Drug and Alcohol Policy Manual for additional information.
